| Art Fair... |
The Art Fair was held at the Barnet Art Centre Whetstone London. The event was Herts and Beds Group first art fair and it took a lot of organisation and planning to book artists and painters. Finally after a lot of searching a hall was found in Barnet and a very kind Vicar Rev. Benjamin donated the hall to us to hold the event. On Sat the 4th August 10am doors opened to the public. The artists, craftsmen and women, painters all organised and set up for the day were all ready with their displays and waiting to sell their wares. The day was a bright sunny day very few people attended as most must have been away on their summer hols. Artists on the day were photographers, painters, glass-painters, oil, and sketch artists. Included also booksellers, personal items made to order in fabric material. To raise funds Lupus items were on sale and a raffle was held. Coffee and tea supplied by Rev. Benjamin donations invited towards lunch and nibbles. All in all the day ran very smoothly event finished at 4pm. The event raised £221.05p.

Charity Concert - A success story...
Thank you to all of our members, their families and friends who came to support Lupus at the Charity Concert given by the Hemel Hempstead Theatre Company at the Boxmoor Playhouse in Hertfordshire. We raised over £225 just by going out to enjoy ourselves - what could be easier?
The evening was a great success not only for Lupus but also for another charity 'Hope for Children'. The theatre was practically full as there is a great demand to see the excellent productions that are produced to a professional standard. The charity concert lived up to all expectations. The music and singing was inspiring, the comedy sketches hilarious and the dancing colourful and exciting. It was a full evening's entertainment and allowed some of our members to forget their aches and pains just for a short while. It was a tonic. The theatre is a self funding organisation and they do a great job at providing help and pleasure for others. Lupus was privileged to be invited to be part of their audience. We extend our thanks to Ron Jeanes, the musical director and creator of the show. Our acknowledgement is given to the choir and cast who worked hard all summer for this event and appreciation is also given to the unseen 'stars' - the volunteers who work quietly in the background of production.
Paula Gosling, our Chair, who amongst all her other duties, kindly placed the notice of the concert in our Newsletter in order to spread the good news for anyone who was able to take the opportunity of joining in.
Credit also goes to Tina Beasley who put flyers and posters in every conceivable establishment and noticeboard in her area in Kings Langley. Tina also arranged with her local pre-nursery group for a display of butterflies to be exhibited in the foyer. The butterflies were large, small, bold, delicate and of every colour of the rainbow and attracted much attention and admiration from the patrons as they entered the theatre. It is touching to think that even the tiniest of our community can give time and effort to help us to help ourselves. Our gratitude is given to the teachers and little ones of Kings Langley playgroup.
After the show finished we were allowed to take a bucket collection as people left the theatre. It was very exciting to hear the tinkle of coins as they were dropped into the bucket and also very nice to see an occasional piece of paper money. We were able to distribute many of our information leaflets to the public and thereby raise awareness of lupus.
The evening was a rewarding experience for all those who attended. For our friends who couldn't manage to come because of illness or other circumstances we do hope you will be able to join us for the next round of lupus fun. Until then our thoughts are with you.

As part of Lupus Awareness Month an open day was held at the Lister Hospital Stevenage on the 4th October 2006. The day hopefully raised awareness of Lupus and helped those who have been newly diagnosed. A big thank you to all those who dropped in.

Redborne Upper School and Community College Non-Uniform Day...
A big thank you to Redborne Upper School and Community College who raised £550.00 on a non-uniform day. Year 10 chose Lupus as one of their charities after the idea was put forward by Tamara Butter. Money will go towards research into the causes and finding a cure for the illness.
